China Glaze Howl You Doin'

Howl You Doin' is from the China Glaze Monster Ball 2013 Halloween Collection. It has purple glitter and orange flakes in a deep purple base.

I did 2 coats with top and base coat.

Big Lots haul

I've been hearing people say they get good deals on nail polish at Big Lots, mostly Wet N Wild.So I decided to stop in today and see if I found anything good. I was not disappointed.

I found China Glaze Crackle Glaze polishes for $1.80 each!!! I got 6 of those. I also found Sinful Colors polishes for $1 each. I got 2. I never guessed I'd find China Glaze there. I ended up with 8 bottles of nail polish and a Revlon eyeshadow for just over $15. I feel like I did pretty well especially since that normally would only get me 2 bottles.

Halloween Challenge Oct 12 - Horror Movie

I chose Stephen King's IT. One of my favorite horror books turned movie. It was difficult for me to use the movie as my inspiration instead of the book because there are so many more monsters to choose from in the book. He's only ever the clown in a couple tiny parts of the book but the movie they only show like 2 other monsters.

The pointer through ring finger is Pennywise the Clown. The pinky is the Balloons.

The thumb says "We all float down here." In the movie that is one of the things Pennywise is always saying when he shows up.

Polishes used were:
Pure Ice- Kiss Me Here
China Glaze- Lemon Fizz
Sinful Colors- Ruby Ruby
OPI- Blue My Mind
Sally Girl- Skull
L'Oreal- Boozy Brunch
China Glaze- White on White

This was done free hand with a fine nail art brush and then I used rhinestone tweezers to place the "balloons"

I really wish my nail art brush wasn't being such a pain. I had a really hard time on the wording and it's still pretty difficult to read. But I ended up doing this one more than I'd liked to have to do, so I figured this one was passable. At least I know what it says.

The face is also pretty messed up. But as tiny as it is I couldn't really get details in there.

Klean Color Swatches

Dolly Pink is a pale pink matte metallic. Very pretty. Full of shimmer. These colors all shimmer pretty well even though they are matte. I was worried they wouldn't.

Whisper Pink is a medium pink matte metallic. This is just a few shades darker than Dolly Pink. This one is also packed with shimmer. I love this one.

Cast A Love Spell is the last pink I got in my set. These 3 would be perfect for a fading effect. They go pretty well together.

I did a full review on the last set of swatches I put up on the Klean Color polishes.  I have decided that I will probably buy more.

I wore this last polish for quite a while and I did not notice the strong smell on those ones so much after they dried. I just washed my hands a couple times and it was gone. I am also getting used to working with the fast drying formula and I'm able to get the to look a bit better. The price really can not be beat on these polishes.

Daring Creation and Be Wild With Class swatches

OK, so I have swatches of 2 of the 17 polishes I got in the mail yesterday. The brand is Klean Color. They sell the polishes single or in lots on Amazon. It is cheapest to buy them in groups. I paid just over $1 a bottle for my set but they sell for $2 or $3 a bottle individually.

All of the polishes are matte and the set included a matte topcoat. This is Daring Creation. For some reason my camera had a REALLY hard time getting the color on this one. It just freaked my camera out. I'm not sure if it was because it is metallic or what. So, you can kind of tell that this is green but in person it is a gorgeous green, perfect for Christmas. In this photo the thumb and pointer finger have a regular top coat and the rest I used the matte top coat on.

There are several things I did not like about the 2 polishes I have tried so far and I'm not sure if it is just what they use to make the polish or if it is because they are matte or even if it is because the polishes are metallic. The polish dried super fast which seams like a good thing but this stuff dries so fast that it made it a bit difficult to work with. I felt like I had to have a lot of polish on my brush and I had to get it spread out really quick. It was sort of like working with the OPI shatter polishes but not quite so bad.

This photo shows the color a bit better; it was taken with flash. These polishes also have quite a strong smell even after they are totally dry. It seems to get a little better after washing my hands a couple times but not completely gone.

This one is Be Wild With Class. I did the matte top coat all over and then did a regular top coat on the tips. I really love the colors that this brand has. The price is fantastic but I'm not sure yet if I will order more. I might and just try out a different type and see if they all have the same issues. They really have some great colors.

This one is before I did the regular top coat on the tips. This is the first time I've really tried out the matte polishes and I really like them.

Overall: I will use the ones I already have. They were a bit of a pain to work with but not terrible and I could get used to it. My biggest issue is the smell. It really is pretty strong especially while painting but that could be dealt with just by using a fan or going outside. I just hate that it hangs around even after it is dried. After I get all of these tried out and decide how much I like them, I will decide if I will order more.

I am so excited about these nails. Even my hubby liked them!

For the letter nails I used:

China Glaze- White on White for the base ( This was base for all nails)
Sinful Colors- Ruby Ruby for the letters

Pure Ice- Kiss Me Here (grey)
Sally Girl- Skull for black details
Finger Paints- Pink Imagination for the pink inside the ear
China Glaze- White on White for white details

I also topped all nails off with a coat of China Glaze- Fairy Dust. : )

I love the little elephant. For a photo tutorial, click here. She has some great tutorials on her page. I love all her little animal tutorials!

I posted last week that I ordered some new polishes from a brand I've never tried before!

They were finally delivered this afternoon! I got 17 matte metallic polishes and a matte topcoat. I have not had the chance to try any out yet but there are some great colors. I will start getting swatches up soon.

I got the whole set of 18 for under $20 on Amazon so I'm really excited about these. I'm hoping I love them so I can order more. : )

Layered Hearts

I saw this a couple weeks ago here and I knew I had to try it out. I didn't want to do exactly the same thing, so I changed the base color. Instead of using Keepin' it Teal, I used Essie Sugar Daddy. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out but next time I think I'll only do 2 or 3 hearts per layer.

I love the overlapping hearts, it helps show how many layers there are but I don't think Sugar Daddy was the best color for this. It just isn't dark enough to show the layers as well as the ones done with Keepin' it Teal.

Sugar Spun Nails

While I had my Pink Imagination nail polish on, I decided to try the sugar spun nails. As soon as I saw these the first time, I knew I had to try them. You can see a video tutorial here.

Let me just say now, it is not as easy as she makes it look. lol. It takes for ever to get the polish to dry enough to get stringy and some polishes seem to not work at all for this.

I am pretty happy with how they turned out though. I'm pretty excited to try it with some other colors.

I did not put a top coat on after I did the dark pink. I ended up with some pretty big bumps and putting a top coat on over top of that would have resulted in a very thick layer of top coat. I also kind of like the texture.

Finger Paints Pink Imagination

Inside under a lamp

This is Finger Paints Pink Imagination. It is a pale pink shimmer polish. They had it on their stand on Oct 1st for Breast Cancer awareness month. Its a very pretty polish. I like pale pink polishes but they all seem to be really sheer and this one is not, it was opaque in 2 coats. I really like that.

Sunlight

I really like this polish. The shimmer didn't really come out in the photos but it has a very nice subtle shimmer to it. Very pretty. This might be my new favorite pale pink.

China Glaze VII

I mentioned yesterday that I'd bought a new fall polish from China Glaze and I got to try it out this morning.

This is China Glaze VII under a lamp. It's a super deep plum purple. SO pretty.

That is with the flash. You can really see the purple in this photo but in person it looks more like the first photo. I really like this polish. Very pretty and great for fall.

I also wanted to say a little more about this Rush 60 second High Speed top coat, that I bought a Sally's, now that I've tried it a few different times.

First, I do not notice the shrinkage that I had with Seche Vite which is great. It is also does not have all the chemicals that SV has and doesn't smell so bad.

I also think that this stuff dries faster.

Finally, it's much cheaper. I got a full 1 oz bottle for $4.99 and I think I paid $5 or $6 for my .5 oz bottle of SV on sale.

Overall, I'm much happier with this than I was with the Seche Vite.

Sally's

I love Sally's especially when they have sales. It's even better when you don't know something is on sale until you get to check out. So I stopped in yesterday planning to get just 1 bottle of polish. I wanted a nice fall color since I don't have very many. I ended up walking out with 3 bottles.

I got China Glaze VII and that was going to be the one bottle I got but then I started talking to one of the girls working there and she mentioned how adorable the little skill bottle was for the Sally Girl polish and it was only $1.99. I didn't have any super cute bottles like that one and now I do. : )

When I got to the check out, I found out the China Glaze was on sale. I think they're normally almost $7 and I paid just over $3. So, I grabbed Finger Paints Pink Imagination. It was one of the ones they stuck out because it's pink and it's October. I have loads of pinks but not a pale pink glitter so I figured I'm filling a gap. : )

I ended up walking out with 3 bottles for just over $10. Pretty happy with that. : )

Halloween Challenge Oct 1 - Ghosts

I'm super proud of these nails. My mom says she thinks they are my best so far. : )

I had a really hard time deciding what to do with these nails. When I think of ghosts there isn't a lot that I  think of to go along with them other than "Boo", so that's my thumb nails.

Pointer and little finger are obviously ghosts.

Middle finger is a moon and a creepy haunted fence. It doesn't look perfect but I am way too pleased with myself over this nail. I love it.

Ring finger is Boo-gie Down layered over a grey, 'cause, you know, BOO-gie.... : )

I used a lot of different polishes for this.

Grey-Pure Ice-Kiss Me Here
Black-Sally Hanson-Black Heart
White-China Glaze-White on White
Glitter-China Glaze-Boo-gie Down
Dark Blue on Pointer-Essie-Bobbing for Baubles

For my Middle finger:
Background is 2 layered colors.
Navy Blue-Ulta-Moody Blues
Blue Glitter-Ulta-Indigo-go Girl

The Moon is a mix
Shimmery White-Sinful Colors-Tokyo Pearl
Darker spots are just Pure Ice-Kiss Me Here

These are all free hand using a fine nail art brush and a dotting tool.

This is the first day of the Halloween Challenge that you can check out here.

Candy Corn mani + Halloween Challenge

These are not the best Candy Corn nails. I really should have used tape to do blocks rather than what I did. It's hard to see but there is yellow on the tips. I'm not over pleased with them but I don't hate them either so here they are.

The colors also did not work very well for the braid. They really need to be pretty opaque colors and the yellow is not. So maybe if I try this again I'll use a different yellow.

I used:
China Glaze White on White
Sinful Colors Cloud 9
L'Oreal Tweet Me

Starting tonight I will be working on this challenge. I'm Super excited because this is the first challenge I've ever participated in!!
